Does anyone subscribe to Genealogy Bank.com?
I was just wondering if anyone out there doing genealogy subscribes to Genealogy Bank.com and if they are happy with their subscription to that site. They just sent me an offer with 75% off (55.95 for 1 year). Apparently, there is access to a lot of newspapers.
Unless you have a very unique name and you know the area you should find newspaper articles and the time frame of ancestors then newspapers are not a very good genealogy tool for finding family. With Ancestry’s Historical Newspapers Collection, when you search “John Smith” then the results will be all of the newspapers they have where the name John and Smith appear on one page. The search result is ‘John Smith in Pittsburgh Times July 4th 1932′ but when you look at the page it will be highlighted for a ‘John’ Doe and an ad for ‘Smith’ Shoes, on the same page.
It is very very time consuming searching.
Now if you are looking for just news stories for research or studies then it might be better fit.
I just went to their website and tried my great grand fathers name, said they found 132 Social Security Death Records, he didn’t have a SSA # and is not found in the Free SSDI index at Rootsweb.
found 37 American Obituaries 1977 to today, he died before 1977.
found 381 Historical Newspapers (1690 to today), So I would have to look at 381 pages if I didn’t know the state and county to narrow it down.
Here is a link to someone who says they are a happy customer but then again she has an unusual surname she found a newspaper marriage announcement of.

They have a 30 day free trial from what I see.
